Kim and other lionesses
My name is Kim and I am a lioness from the Orana Wildlife Park. I have been living in New Zealand for a long time now, so much time that I don’t even remember how many years have passed.
I savor the taste of freedom and an absolutely full and healthy life, at peace with other animals and with Mother Nature. My only gripe is to see so many poor humans who are often transported in cages here, in the middle of the savannah, just because someone thinks that we lions can be attracted by the performance of these people. What nonsense. How can we feel joy looking at prisoners locked up in such a small space?
Sure, humans are really weird! Despite being locked in a cage, they photograph us, laugh and look happy. How can you be happy when you’re locked up in a prison? What crimes have these men and women committed? Will they have killed someone to be punished in that horrible way?
I remember my mom telling a story that seemed to be exactly the other way around. She told me about abused lions, imprisoned in zoos and circuses, enslaved by the stupidity and curiosity of humans. But perhaps that was just a dream, indeed, a nightmare of a lioness who claimed to have lived in a zoo, dreaming of returning to her savannah. What nonsense. There are no zoos for animals, but cages for innocent poor humans.
I will be the promoter of their liberation. I will ask here in Orana how to do it. You know what? I think I’m going to found a movement Freedom for Humans.
