Save a duck!
\nYes, because we all love animals, just imagine the ducks! When they walk they trot like Charlot did and when they swim they look like cartoon characters.
\nNothing is closer to nature than these cute birds. And, above all, “natural is beautiful”, isn\u2019it?
\nIt evokes the concept of health, it gives the idea of \u200b\u200bbeing one with the environment, of perfectly entering the ecosystem. Hence conviction is born that it is right to wear clothing of natural origin, such as a wool sweater or a linen shirt. Or, why not, a beautiful pure silk stole.
\nYet, sometimes, even the most beautiful and desired objects hide deep dark sides, and it is fair to discover, highlight and talk about them.
\nMost of us, accustomed to habits established in decades, do not pay attention to many aspects that are considered technical, such as the packaging of quilts, duvets and pillows. Yet, it is evident, simply by thinking about it, that these feathers do not come from a hairdresser specialized in ducks, who delicately combs their white bodies so to use feathers and feathers remained gently attached to the meshes of the brushes. On the contrary, they are plucked with mechanical procedures that tears away the feathers from the ducks until they bleed. Macabre, isn\u2019it? But it is not only macabre, it is also – and above all – cruel.
\nSo, a few years ago a real scandal came to light, which affected several companies – even well-known brands – which turned out not to use methods, so to speak orthodox, for plucking animals. On the contrary, a disgusting market of suffering emerged, which made shudder down the spine a public opinion even not too sensitive to animal welfare causes. When it is too much, it is too much, and the suffering has been tinged with popular dissent.
\nIt was at that time that the name of a company called Save the Duck emerged; an Italian brand created by the mastermind Nicolas Bargi, with a logo representing a duckling with drops of sweat that fall down the muzzle, clearly relieved from having escaped the cruelty occurred over and over again by many of his fellows. The chick walks an inch off the ground, whistling, or perhaps squawking, it\u2019s hard to say. However, what strikes the eye is the fact that Save the Duck was the first fashion company in Italy to become a B-Corp, or to obtain the certification reserved for the best performers in the world at a social and environmental level. With a nice score of 95\/100.
\nHow did Save the Duck do? Simple, it was Out of the Box. For several reasons.<\/p>\n

First of all, because it pursued the aim of solving 2 problems at once: removing the feathers, barbarously torn away from the ducks, from the duvets and recycling intelligently the plastic waste that pollutes our planet, obtaining super ecological lining.
\nAfterwards, having correctly exposed its mission, communicating the code of ethics everywhere, in which it is clearly stated that Save the Duck does not spin, weave or sew. At least not in the traditional way. The yarns – if we can still call them this way – that Save the Duck uses, are all of synthetic origin, from recycled plastic to discarded fishing nets. All stuff – rubbish many people would say – destined to end up in the environment without having a second chance, probably with a one-way ticket to a landfill, the sea or a lawn full of other waste – perhaps with children playing next to it.
\nFinally, as Save the Duck has managed to effectively communicate the beauty of wearing synthetic clothing, which was unthinkable until a few years ago. So, fashion, which has always been a world of colors, becomes a world of values, in which there is no pain, no imprisonment, no cruelty.
\nThere is a double desire: one of regenerating something polluting and harmful; secondly and above all there is the desire, never felt before by the masses of consumers, to think that “it is nice to wear a fashionable garment”, but that “it is even better to know that it is cruelty free”.
\nProbably, with the raising of attentiveness to animal rights and environmental issues – inevitable in the near future – Save the Duck will be considered a precursor of this new trend, aimed at attention and awareness, which also looks at the wardrobe. This is not only because it was the first company to make clothing, let’s call it aware, but probably because it was the first to communicate it well, to be able to enter the hearts and wardrobes of many people, leveraging on an effective and successful communication.
\nThe voice used by Save the Duck has insisted, in a soft and not direct way, on the emotionality of a message that is not slammed in the face and that does not blame the inattentive customer. The awareness of informing, helping to make ethical choices without pointing the finger at someone (which would have been very easy, when so many bombastic fashion brands, and Save the Duck competitors, were overwhelmed by this scandal), represented an additional value. Bargi & Co. told us \u201cI offer you a product that hasn’t hurt anyone. It’s ethical, good. Do you want to choose it? ” Without any “J\u2019accuse”, without easy recriminations, or screams. While it would have been simple and profitable to do so.<\/p>\n

We do not pretend to give answers or solutions, or to suggest what may be right or wrong. Everyone will have an idea, probably the correct one. Our task is to unearth stories and uncover words, which will inevitably give rise to other words, which will be followed by some others. Sometimes they will have the raw texture of linen. Other times they will be as smooth as velvet, ready to be caressed. Like it could be done to a chick walking an inch off the ground. Whistling or squawking. Or maybe doing both.<\/p>\n
