Having a secret dream and persevering, in the hope of making it happen, is not for everyone.
Most people are easily discouraged and end up contenting themselves with their fate, with the excuse that “one in a million makes it” to pursue a goal that seems unattainable.
Then there are those who think differently, innovatively, out of the box; and so the dream turns into reality. We should think that one of those rare white dots in the universe of black dots could be us. This is what must have been thought by Rami Malek, the guy that before becoming Golden Globe and Oscar winner (for the role of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, worked as a delivery boy for years, carrying pizzas here and there in Los Angeles.
So far, nothing strange, except that Rami had a rather peculiar habit, when he delivered pizzas to people who, in some way, had to do with the world of cinema (which is not uncommon in the capital of the film industry): to affix , above the smoking cardboard, a photograph of him with his curriculum vitae.
And so, by chance, or perhaps not, finally one fine day Rami was called by someone who entrusted him with his first part, just like that, in a few hours. In short, his tenacity had given him that possibility that he simply asked to have, launching him like a rocket towards a formidable career.
Yes, it was enough to deliver the right pizza to the right place to become, according to Time magazine, one of the 100 most influential people in the world. I don’t think that now anyone who wants to be an actor should abandon her/his studies to go and deliver poke or hamburgers, but I think that Rami’s lived story can be an important inspiration for anyone who has the desire to make it, for all those who feel relegated and locked up in a small world surrounded by barbed wire and who don’t think it’s possible to get out of it.
The first secret is always the same: believe in yourself, never give up and don’t think that your dream, however ambitious it may be, cannot be achieved – and so far nothing innovative. The second, however, is to give voice to one’s right hemisphere of the brain, the one that activates lateral thinking, the basis of all brilliant ideas. In short, to adopt small creative strategies that can highlight one’s qualities and aptitudes that can act as a bridge between our small world and the larger world we dream of landing on. It is possible making yourself different in a world where we are increasingly similar, and it could really help to make the right person notice us and make them think “yes, she/he is just who I was looking for”.
So, let’s go ahead, with our feet firmly on the ground and – why not? – head in the clouds, suspended between dream and concreteness, desire and reality. Just find the right box for our imaginary pizza, accompanied by a sprinkling of creativity, a drop of sagacity and a pinch of luck.
After all, life is full of opportunities, you just need to find the right seasoning to make it special.
